Tiera or Dimitria

What is my name?

“To me Tiera reminds me of where I was while Dimitria shows me where I can go.”

I get asked this question so much that it is almost funny. For starters, my legal name is Tiera Dimitria Brown. Like most Americans I have a first, middle and last name. There are many documented reason on the purpose of the middle name depending on the parent’s culture. I am pretty sure my parents, by parents I mean my mother because we know my dad hasn’t a clue how to say my middle name, was just following the masses. My mother and oldest sister both go by their middle names but I never thought much of it. Growing up I always went by Tiera. I could not spell Dimitria for the life of me until maybe middle school. I only recently began going by my middle name and it has been nothing short of a disaster. For some reason people believe I am two separate people. Sorry to burst your bubble but Tiera and Dimitria are the same person. *Insert face palm

It was not until I went away to college that I decide to begin going by my middle name. I personally felt it just fit the growing personility I was working to discover. Some people have the misconception that I am running from something but in reality it was about self growth. I have battled depression, anxiety, and debilitating shyness while growing up which pushed me to really discover who I was as a person. If you met my before and after you would see the 180 my life has made over the years. To me Tiera reminds me of where I was while Dimitria shows me where I can go. It may not make sense to you, and I accept that. No hard feelings.

I guess you you can say Dimitria is my alter ego kind of like Sasha Fierce.

What do I go by?

This is the hardest of the questions. Dimitria is my preferred name and what I introduce myself as. I will answer to either one because it is my legal name. You will not offend me if you call me Tiera or Dimitria. You will only offend me if you still think I am two different people. No, seriously it is really not a big deal.
